Law Case Citation / Access

Questions for whoever might know the answers:

If a court case cites a quote from, say, a judge making a statement
about another court case, for example, from "Campbell, 114 S.Ct. at 1171,"
can I cite that directly or do I need to go find the case itself somewhere
separately? Where would I go for that? Is that the correct way to
footnote? Etc. etc.

In other words, any further information on how I can NOT be academically
dishonest due to having no idea about any of this...would be fabulous!!

Thanks, guys,
Whitney

PS Is anyone else using law cases in their papers and having the same
questions? Or am I all alone?
